Supported sound modules

  • EFNOTE 3 / 5 / 7 series.
  • Firmware version: 1.20 or newer
  • To see the firmware version, go to Menu > Settings > Info > Version.

Quick Start

    <Android> Do not pair or connect to the sound module from the Android's Settings screen.

  1. Make sure the Bluetooth® function on the sound module is turned on. Then go back to the home screen.

    Make sure none of the window is popped up on the sound module.

    Make sure the Bluetooth on your smartphone is turned on.

  2. Open up the EFNOTE Tools app.
    After scanning, your sound module should be listed on the app.

    Allow the app to access the device's location to use Bluetooth wireless communication.

  3. Tap the [Connect].
  4. Confirm whether the app IDs matched on both displays, and tap the [OK] on the sound module to allow it to connect.
    The menu screen is displayed on the app. Now ready to use.

Save 1 Kit

Downloads the currently selected drum kit from the sound module, and saves it as a file into your smartphone.

  1. On the sound module, select a kit you want to save.
  2. Then enter a file name and tap the [Save 1 Kit].

Upload 1 Kit

Uploads a selected drum kit file to the sound module.

  1. Select a kit file you want to upload.
  2. Then tap the [Upload 1 Kit].
  3. After finishing transfer of the kit file, the name entry screen is displayed on the sound module.
    Name it and tap the [OK] to store it. Tapping the [Cancel] will discard the kit received.
  4. To import a kit file from the downloads folder of your smartphone, tap the [Import kit file...], and select a file.

Make sure none of the window is popped up on the sound module.

Save Trigger

Downloads the current trigger settings from the sound module, and saves them as a file into your smartphone.

  1. Enter file name and tap the [Save Trigger].

Upload Trigger

Uploads a selected trigger settings file to the sound module.
This overwrites the current trigger settings on the sound module.

  1. Select a trigger settings file you want to upload.
  2. Then tap the [Upload 1 Trigger].
  3. To import a trigger settings file from the downloads folder of your smartphone, tap the [Import trigger settings file...], and select a file.

Make sure none of the window is popped up on the sound module.

Preview Pads

Plays pad sounds remotely for preview purpose.

  • You can adjust the dynamics of the sound by the slider, and select the zone for each pad by the switch.
  • Tapping the [Refresh icon] updates the kit name.

Pad Levels

Remotely adjusts each of the pad level of the currently selected drum kit.

  • Values displayed in blue are confirmed levels, and displayed in red are levels will be sent when you tap the [Send].
  • Tapping [Refresh icon] updates the kit name and all pad levels.

Swap Pads

Swaps sounds between 2 tom pads, or between 2 cymbal pads on the currently selected drum kit.
This overwrites the currently selected drum kit with the swapped configuration.

  1. Select two pads you want to swap.
  2. Tap the [Swap] to execute.

FAQs

My app cannot find my sound module when scanning.
  • Tap the [Refresh] on bottom right corner to rescan.
  • On the sound module, is bluetooth turned on?
  • Is your smartphone placed closer enough to the sound module (try within 1ft / 30cm)?
  • No other Bluetooth MIDI device is connected to the sound module?
  • Do not pair or connect to the sound module from the Android's Settings. If you already did this, unpair (forget) the sound module on the Android's Settings, and then open up the app.
  • Quit the app, restart the sound module, and then open up the app again.
  • Make sure your smartphone supports Bluetooth 4.2 or newer.
  • The app might not be compatible with the bluetooth function on your smartphone.
My app cannot connect to the sound module.
  • On the sound module, the home screen is being displayed?
  • Make sure none of the window is popped up on the display of the sound module.
  • Make sure the firmware version of the sound module is latest.
  • After tapping the [Connect], check the display of the sound module to allow the connection.
  • If you have done pairing with the sound module from the Android's Settings, unpair (forget) the sound module on the Android's Settings first, and then try to connect on the app.
  • Quit the app, restart the sound module, and then open up the app again.
  • In case nothing is displayed on the display of the sound module even if you tapped the [Connect] on the app, the app might not be compatible with the bluetooth function on your smartphone.
How can I apply the kit file downloaded from the kit library?
  1. Make sure where the kit file was downloaded to. Usually it is downloaded to the "Downloads" folder on your smartphone. You may also be able to find it at the "Recents" section.
  2. Go to the "Upload 1 Kit", and tap the [Import kit file...] at the bottom right.
  3. Find and select the kit file downloaded.
  4. Tap the [Upload 1 Kit] to upload it to the sound module.
Can I upload an other model's kit file to my sound module?

Yes, EFNOTE 3/5/7 series can be uploaded other models' kit file, but it might contain sounds that your sound module does not have. In that case the kit file will be partially applied, and the missing sound (tone) will be replaced with "No Sound", even if the inst name is displayed correctly.

  1. Go to "Upload 1 Kit" screen.
  2. Turn the [Show other models] switch on. Now you can see the other models' kit files.
  3. Select a file, and tap the [Upload 1 Kit].
Can I share my kit file with someone?.
Yes, you can share or post your kit file downloaded from your sound module to anywhere/anybody you want at your own risk.

You cannot share/post the kit file downloaded from the kit library. Please share the URL of the kit library web page.

Where the saved files are located?
  • iOS: On My iPhone > EFNOTE Tools > efd
  • Android: Internal storage > Android > data > com.efnote.tools > files > efd
What if I uninstall the App?

All of saved kit files and trigger settings files will be deleted.

If you want to keep them, copy them to anywhere on your smartphone or cloud drive. When you install the app later again, you can import them.

On the preview pads screen, the displayed kit name is not updated.

How can I delete a saved kit file?
  1. Go to the "Save 1 Kit" or "Upload 1 Kit" screen.
  2. On the file list, swipe the file you want to delete left or right.
  3. The confirmation is popped up. Tap the [Delete] to delete it.

  1. Go to the "Save Trigger" or "Upload Trigger" screen.

How can I rename a saved file?
You can use the standard "Files" app to rename the saved file.

Do not change any file extension, otherwise the app will not able to recognize it.

I got the "sound module not ready" error.
  • If any of window is being popped up on the sound module, close it.
  • Go back to the home screen on the sound module, to be sure.

  • If you got this error when connection, make sure the firmware version of the sound module is latest.

  • Get your smartphone as closer as possible to the sound module.
  • Keep away from other WiFi devices or a microwave.
  • Bluetooth audio of the sound module might have a unwanted effect for the communication of the app, and disconnecting it may be able to improve the app's communication quality.
I get a connection lost very often.
  • Get your smartphone as closer as possible to the sound module.
  • Disconnect the Bluetooth audio of the sound module.
  • Keep away from other WiFi devices or a microwave.
  • Quit the app, restart the sound module, and then open up the app again.
